Flute is perhaps the most natural of all the musical instruments!

| Flute Instructor - Kathryn Alexander |
Kathryn Alexander - Flute Instructor email: msalexander@gillsmusic.net
Ms. Alexander holds a B.A. degree in Music Education which she earned
from Manhattanville College in Connecticut. After graduating from college she became the musical director at Northwest Catholic
High School in Connecticut. In 2005 Ms. Alexander relocated from the East Coast to California and became the Director of Music
at Pioneer Elementary in Brentwood.
Ms. Alexander started her own musical training at the early age of 5 by learning
to play the piano and then the flute. As a flute student Ms. Alexander competed in state music competitions throughout her
middle school and high school years. While growing up in New England she also performed with many local community ensembles
in addition to the school bands and orchestras.
Ms. Alexander believes (and knows from personal experience) that
learning how to play an instrument is very helpful in life and in school. Studying music requires the student to exercise
self-disipline in practicing and also helps the student become better organized. Students who take lessons privately with
one-on-one instruction have the opportunity to learn more about their instrument than is ever possible in a classroom
setting. Private flute lessons with Ms. Alexander will include everything from how to get a good sound to the study of theory,
proper technique, posture, and alternate fingerings. Advanced students will also work on solo pieces and study quality
flute literature.
Ms. Alexander is available by appointment at our Brentwood studio on Wednesdays, Fridays and
Saturdays. Her private tutoring rate is $28.00 per 30-minute weekly lessons, paid monthly. Please call in advance to schedule!!

| Flute Teacher - Angela Smith |
Angela Smith - Flute Teacher email: angela@gillsmusic.net
Angela is a college student majoring in music. She has been teaching
music lessons since her last two years in high school. Angela first started playing the flute in the fourth
grade and found that it came very naturally for her. She had also been taking piano lessons since the age
of six, so she had the desire to branch out and learn other instruments. Through the years, Angela also
learned how to play the saxophone and the oboe. Angela is a member of numerous groups throughout the Bay
Area, including a choral group based in Oakland and a wind symphony based in Concord. Angela has also been
chosen to perform throughout California with a few different honor bands. Angela also does community service
through music as she plays at retirement centers and volunteers with her family to put on a Christmas concert each year.
Angela loves working with children of all ages. Her love of music can easily be seen in those that
she teaches. Angela always teaches her students how to read and understand every marking in the music so
they can play expressively, even on their own at home. Angela also stresses the importance of music theory
and history to her students so that they might all have a well-rounded music education. Angela is a happy
and energetic teacher that will make you glad you chose her for lessons.
