"I would teach
children music, physics and philosophy; but most importantly music, for in the patterns of music... are the keys of learning." -- Plato

Lin Hypes - Piano Teacher
email: lin@gillsmusic.net
Hello! My name is Lin Hypes and I've been teaching
piano for 44 years. I'm very patient, kind and I like to teach with humor so the lesson is fun. I studied to be a concert
pianist from the age of 7 until I was 22 when I became a mom. I was doing piano competitions at that age and being a new mom,
I looked at my goals and decided that if I continued on that path, someone else would be raising my children instead of me!
So I permanently changed to teaching and I enjoyed it so much, I've never been sorry that I switched to teaching.
My lessons are in half hour increments, once a week and the tuition is due the first week of the month for the entire month.
If the student is absent for any reason, the tuition is forfeited. If the teacher (myself) is unable to teach the lesson,
then the tuition will be applied to the next months lessons. I never get angry at my students and I love to joke with them.
I look forward to meeting you and wish you happy music making!
Lin is available by appointment during the middle
of the week and charges $25.00 per 30-minute weekly lesson, paid monthly in advance.

| Piano Instructor - Heather Smith |
Heather Smith - Piano Teacher
email: heather@gillsmusic.net
I am a college student who loves music who has been playing the piano since age 5. I also play the clarinet in
the wind ensemble at Diablo Valley College, where I am the first clarinetist and section leader. My musical education has
included studying with Dr. Mark Alburger, Chad J. Humpal, Monte Bairos and some other fine instructors of music theory and
performance; as well as learning how to first play the piano from one of the best teachers ever, my sister, Kristine Hepworth.
I have traveled throughout California to perform music and currently sing in a choral group based in Oakland. I also
have played the piano in jazz band and I have performed with my clarinet in honor bands throughout the Bay Area, including
a paid performance at Union Square in San Francisco. In 2000 I received a top honor Sight-reading award from Chad J. Humpal.
As far as teaching goes, I love children and always teach with patience. I began giving music lessons at a young age
when people would hear me play the piano and then would ask me to give them or their children lessons. After a while, I realized
I truly enjoyed teaching and decided to pursue it seriously as a career. I really look forward to each new student that I
meet and can't wait to guide you or your child along the path to becoming a fine musician!
Heather is available
for either piano or clarinet instruction. She charges $25.00 per 30-minute lesson, paid monthly in advance.

Jonathan Tickner - Piano/Bass Instructor:
email: jt@gillsmusic.net
Jonathan Tickner, or JT as he is called,
is an excellent young teacher for both piano and electric bass. He started his own musical journey with piano lessons at age
five. At ten years old JT took up the saxophone in elementary school and by age sixteen he added the electric bass to his
arsenal. He played those instruments all through his school years. These days you can find JT playing contemporary music in
various venues throughout the East Bay.
As a teacher JT is terrific. He
is patient, encouraging and especially good with children. If you are interested in getting more information about JT please
email the link above or phone (925)757-2323 to set up a meeting. Have a great day!
